Paceman Gus Atkinson Exacerbates England's Injury Problems.

'Serious blow' for the English camp as Atkinson is forced off due to a hamstring issue.

The English seamer added to the fitness woes of the England squad after leaving the field during Saturday's play of the fourth Ashes Test in the Ashes series.

The right-arm seamer experienced discomfort in his hamstring post-delivery that he bowled during the morning session.

The touring camp indicated the 27-year-old felt some "soreness" and would spend time on the sidelines for further assessment "in the coming hours".

The concluding match of the series beginning on 4 January starts on Sunday, 4 January.

England have been without strike bowlers one seamer to a knee injury and Jofra Archer because of a side injury on the current trip.

A replacement bowler was added to the party to provide backup.

Atkinson struggled during the first two matches, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was dropped for the Adelaide match, only to be brought back for the Boxing Day match as Archer's replacement.

The county bowler improved at the MCG, bagging two scalps with the ball, before adding 28 with the bat being one of only three English batsmen to get into double digits.

Post a single over in Australia's second innings, he returned for the second day's play and dismissed the nightwatchman edging to the keeper.

However, towards the conclusion of that over, he delivered a variation to the batsman and immediately felt for his hamstring.

Atkinson was brought back for the Melbourne match having missed the previous Test.
