Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's natural for questions to be asked about his position following another convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the club's worst streak since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received a lot of support from management,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to turn it around and secure a win of course but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it's typical that people question you.”
He continued, “I am OK with my role. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Talks with The Board
When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “In the normal exchanges I feel the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Failings and Player Reaction
Slot lamented known shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder said.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a spell such as this with outcomes so bad.”
He concluded, “However we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we'll continue to fight.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
