Supporters Urge Detainment of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Devoted fans of the pop star are demanding that a man who leaped a fence and seized the actress during the recent Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or expelled from Singapore.
A widely shared video shows the individual from Australia shoving aside camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the cast made its way down a event pathway flanked by supporters.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the shocked performer away from Mr Wen, who was seen being escorted out of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "let go after being taken in", though court documents indicated that he was scheduled to appear on the following morning. It is not clear if he was faced legal action.
Record of Event Invasions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram profile contains recordings of him interrupting other celebrity events, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in recently and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last December.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is clearly a legal violation," wrote an Instagram user, in a message to a video Mr Wen posted of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" a different Instagram user wrote.
Followers Voice Worry Over Ariana's Safety
Several followers criticized Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had spoken of dealing with PTSD after a suicide bomb attack at the conclusion of her 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and wounding many.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" commented one more comment on Instagram.
A number of attendees also questioned guards at the gathering for not being adequately prepared; while some called for online networks to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Response and Event Details
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande appeared startled when she was touched by the individual. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen consoling her while Mr Wen was removed by security.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the remaining proceedings proceeded as normal.
