The Latest Casual Game Mode Ignites Intense Discussions Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but features several key adjustments:

  • Each team has only 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by human gamers grant complete experience points, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Features like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, the playlist delivers on its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it provides additional choices for players seeking alternative methods to have fun with the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are upset.

Player Reactions: Anger to Support

"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," while someone else lists everything they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."

However, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and don't play this title all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Criticisms and Player Input

Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times even longer for other modes due to the large amount of options currently available. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove XP farming from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base compromising halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?

Should the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
