The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
While perhaps not at the same level as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a prosperous future without fear.”
The event, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, donated by a first responder, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “6-7” – inspired by a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The trend became so widespread that a major dictionary recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the holiday season,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Annually, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
